As we also informed you the other day, out of respect for the families of the victims and the survivors of the Aurora, Colorado shootings, Warner Bros. decided to take out a key scene from the upcoming “Gangster Squad” and hold reshoots.

It was initially assumed that the film would still be out in September as scheduled, after some editing to remove a scene in which a group of vigilante cops shoot and kill mafia bosses from behind a movie screen – an image that bore a painful resemblance to what actually happened in Aurora.

Today, it's official: the movie has been pushed back to 2013.

Warner Bros. has announced that “Gangster Squad” will be out in January next year, which will put enough of a distance between it and the tragedy, but also allow plenty of time for reshoots.

“Gangster Squad” stars Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena and Robert Patrick. Above is a trailer for it.
