Movie critics say Guy Ritchie only went mainstream when he put out “Sherlock Holmes,” his first movie until then to help him break on the US market. While the sequel doesn't drop until December, a third installment is already in the works.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, the film is a re-telling of the classic story, with Sherlock and Dr. Watson being more modern, more action-prone characters than in any other film based on the novels.

The first film instantly became a box office hit, which prompted Warner Bros. to announce a sequel even before it had finished its run in theaters.

The same seems to be happening with the sequel and the threequel, the only obvious difference being that the second installment is not even out and the movie studio is already ironing out the details for another film.

Talk about confidence.

AceShowbiz reports: “Although 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' is still two months away from arriving in U.S. theaters, Warner Bros. Pictures is already planning a third installment for the Robert Downey Jr.-starring detective movie franchise.”

The movie studio has already found a screenwriter for the third film, and he happens to be the same scribe now working on “Iron Man 3,” which also stars Robert Downey Jr. as the male lead.

“Warner Bros. has tapped Drew Pearce to serve as the scribe for the next 'Sherlock Holmes' movie. Pearce is currently writing the screenplay for 'Iron Man 3.' Additionally, he tackles the script for Paramount Pictures' DC Comics-adapted superhero movie, 'The Mighty',” the e-zine further says.

As of now, no other names have been attached to the third film but one thing is certain: Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be reprising their roles, or it wouldn't happen at all.

“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is out in theaters starting December 16 and also stars Jared Harris, Noomi Rapace and Stephen Fry.
