An interesting alternative to the outdated red lips

When it comes to makeup and clothes, quite on a few occasions, women tend to use their feminine prerogative to change their minds and always try new things, and all the more so when designers and beauty specialists present them with such a great bunch of options in those areas. Trendsetters like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Prada and others are now promoting, as they’ve always been doing, via the new collections for the fall/winter 2008-2009, the fresh, glamorous, yet subtle kind of look given by a more natural makeup.

Daring red lips are not a trend focus anymore, as they've been replaced by nude shades that are closer to the color of the skin. Celebrities have also embraced this tendency, with fashion icons such as Nicole Scherzinger, Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, and Jennifer Garner being proud to show off their pale, natural looking lips that remind us so much of that particular kind of beauty that was once in fashion in the ‘80s.

As always, the subtle effect on the lips must be counterbalanced by the eyes, which can be emphasized, for a more exotic feel, with dark mascara and some smoky strokes of eyeliner or eye shadow.

The secret for a successful transformation into an innocent, yet mysterious-looking diva is to be found in the ability of choosing the right shade to go with your skin tone, as you surely want to avoid a ghost-like appearance or one that might make people think of physical pain. At the same time, if you want people to still be able to tell the shape of your lips, all experts agree on one thing: if you really want to go for the natural-look, it’s best to choose a lipstick that is one, or even two shades lighter or darker than your lips. You can complement it (if you so wish) with a neutral lip pencil.

A similar look can also be easily obtained by applying on your lips the concealer that you usually use to cover minor flaws on your face (mixed with some lip balm, to soften and moisturize the skin on your lips) or a pale-colored lipgloss.
