The Warlords series is the creation of Steven Fawkner. The game successfully combined role-playing elements with strategies in a fantastic setting. The series was split by the two strategy directions available – TBS and RTS (represented by the younger sub-series Warlords Battlecry). In the fantasy world of Etheria there is a constant battle between good and evil. The demonic horsemen (the Lord of Plague, the Lord of Famine,
the Lord of Hatred, and the ever present Lord Bane - lord of Death - and his henchman Lord Sartek of the Minotaur’s) try to bring Etheria on the brink of extinction. The human races, represented by their best heroes and armies (Sirian Knights and the Empires of Men) will oppose this oppression at all costs.

Warlords III: Darklords Rising is considered by many to be the greatest title in the series (despite the fact that already a fifth title has been rumored to be in development with Infinite-Interactive). The game has plenty of features to assure the player almost endless replay value. It introduces 31 new armies, five new hero types, a scenario editor, a campaign designer, new skills and spells for heroes, new options before and during gameplay, nine new game types, new victory conditions, new scenarios, new campaigns, and new terrain types.
