The guys at Mythic Entertainment are really happy these days. After releasing their first MMORPG (Massively Multyplayer Online Role Playing Game) that was based in the Warhammer universe, the sales are extremely good. So good, that in just a week since launch, over 500,000 players have created accounts for the game.
Here's what Mark Jacobs, manager of Mythic Entertainment had to say, “In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG. We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life”.
He sure is a happy guy because he proved to all of the critics and those who didn't really believe in the chances that his MMORPG would make a decent profit, that they were wrong. He initially stated that the game would fight for supremacy with the best of them, like World of Warcraft. That statement was severely mocked by industry specialists. Needless to say, there were quite a lot of Warhammer fans who desperately expected the game and see characters from the original RPG in an online MMO. Mythic capitalized on this aspect, their target audience being precisely these die hard fans. Now, they really need to change their perspective, there are quite a lot of Warhammer fans, but they will eventually run out, so they should redefine their public. They should start attracting more casual players, who aren't in for the quests or items from the game, but just want to have fun.
In the end, the game is very good, having won a lot of prizes and awards from various gaming sites and being ranked in the top most expected titles for the PC this year. And with all these accomplishments, the sales that it's enjoying are not much of a shock. Let's hope it will continue the ascending trend in the future.
