Beta not working properly

Mark Jacobs, who is the boss of Mythic Entertainment, developer of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, has warned GOA, the European publisher and operator for the MMO, that the problems players are currently dealing with should be solved by the launch date, September 18.

Jacobs quickly stated that “GOA messed up and their CEO has apologised and promised to do better going forward... None of the actors in this little play came out of this unscathed... Neither their CEO nor I am defending what happened yesterday. It was an ugly day”.

The United States and the East Asian version of the game successfully entered beta and players have been able to enjoy the game in the recent few days with only minor technical glitches being reported. Players trying to log in to the European beta have been reporting major problems. The character creation screen is unusable and there are even reports that beta keys given out by Mythic themselves are not accepted by the game servers.

GOA is reported to be working hard on fixing the issues and service should resume in full today, with players being urged to expect a message from the operators of the game before they try to log on again.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning represents the biggest MMO launch of the fall and Electronic Arts hopes that the game can rival World of Warcraft in a few years. The main new aspects introduced by the game are realm vs realm combat, a focus towards player vs player action and the idea of public quests. These are gameplay sequences where players can collaborate without entering a party to reach a goal, like slaying a minor boss. The problem is that these quests are only interesting when a great number of players are inhabiting a server, so GOA needs to get its operation so that the servers are full when the game officially launches on September 18.
