British developer Eutechnyx has revealed the launch date of their upcoming Warhammer 40K licensed lane strategy game, Storm of Vengeance, set to release on March 27.

Warhammer 40k is a tabletop miniature wargame created by Games Workshop, developed as a futuristic version of Warhammer: The Game of Fantasy Battles.

The setting is a dystopian sci-fi universe and the game features small-scale skirmishes between warring factions, involving a large assortment of units and complex rules that govern confrontations.

Over time, the Warhammer universe has seen many adaptations, from tabletop to video games, and its rich storyline has been continuously expanded by thematic novels and graphic novels published by Games Workshop's book and audio book branch Black Library.

The Warhammer 40k game is intended to be a sort of tower defense affair similar to Plants vs. Zombies, with the battlefield divided into five lanes and players being able to place defensive and offensive buildings and units strategically in order to win the match.

The game strives to offer a certain depth of gameplay, in addition to resource generation also introducing a leveling and skill tree system used to improve certain units by giving them useful new abilities.

Furthermore, the game also features certain hero units and command abilities which can be deployed by using a special resource, which players have to decide when best to generate from resource gathering buildings.

The game will, of course, feature cross-platform multiplayer which will allow players across PC and mobile platforms to battle against each other, complete with ranking systems and faction wars, players having the chance to earn campaign medals based on how their faction is faring in the global conflict.

Warhammer 40k Storm of Vengeance also features a single-player campaign, including over 50 missions for each faction and based on Gav Thorp's best-selling book Purging of Kadillus. The single-player mode is a little more friendly, as tapping on the screen pauses the action and allows players more time for strategic decisions.

The game currently includes the Space Marines and Orks factions, with the Imperial Guard coming as a third faction on launch day, available as purchasable DLC. Other factions will also be implemented and released as post-launch downloadable content packs.

Eutechnyx has stated their plans to keep micro-transactions out of Storm of Vengeance, as the game is aimed at the core gaming market, with a one-time up-front payment that unlocks all the game's features and allows players to progress through the campaign or in multiplayer leaderboards according to their individual skill level.

Warhammer 40k Storm of Vengeance will be released on March 27 on iOS, Android and Steam.
