Video game developer Wargaming.net has announced that it is also working on a MMO called World of Battleships, which will be launched as free-to-play and will join World of Tanks and World of Warplanes in order to allow players to experience warfare on land, air and sea.

The developers are saying that players will get a game that is based around the most significant naval battles of the XX century, which might mean that the evolution of ships will begin with the dreadnought days of World War I and will then move to the domination of the battleship, the rise of the aircraft carrier and the modern fights at range which involve battlegroups and smaller craft.

Wargaming.net is also promising an easy-to-use game interface, controls that are easy to pick up and a resource system that is shared with the World Of Tanks and World of Warplanes titles from the same company.

Victor Kislyi, who is the Chief Executive Officer, has stated when the announcement was made that, “Humans always needed to conquer the elements — earth, water and air. With World of Tanks, World of Warplanes and World of Battleships we will offer players to conquer all, simultaneously.”

Creating a naval battle MMO is harder than working with tanks and with airplanes because naval tactics are much more complicated and the system will need to handle a bigger number of variables, both environmental and linked to the battleships themselves.

It will also be interesting to see how the developers manage their resources and spread them between their three projects.

The fact that Wargaming.net has free-to-play MMO about all aspects of warfare also raises the tantalizing possibility that the company will allow cross play between them at some point, which will enable warfare enthusiasts to play full military operations lifted from the most important conflicts of the XX century.
