Futuristic third-person shooter Warframe is coming to the Xbox One computer entertainment system from Microsoft, adding another title to the list of free-to-play games owners of the system are able to enjoy, starting September 2.

The reveal came through a panel that developer Digital Extremes held at Gamescom this week, and that the dev also made public on YouTube, for everyone interested to be able to get more information on the upcoming game (skip to 7:46 if you want to jump straight into the meaty part).

Warframe entered beta on the PC platform in early 2013, and then made its debut on Sony’s PlayStation 4 console in November last year, and developer Digital Extremes revealed that since then, the popular game managed to score over 10 million users, a number which is expected to soar once the game hits the Xbox One.

In addition to this, when the game launches on the Xbox One, gamers all around the world will be able to get their hands on the Tenno, an ancient race of mystical beings, preserved in cryopods for centuries, that have just awoken from their slumber.

The Tenno are a part of Earth’s distant past, a faction of lost warriors awoken to find that a new war is raging, where their mastery of guns, blades and exo-armor will prove much more important than the memories they now lack.

Furthermore, the latest big official patch, Update 14, in addition to fixing a lot of the issues that the game’s community had reported, also made the third-person shooter much more friendly toward newcomers.

With an overhauled tutorial system that added introductory missions that allow first-time players to gain a better understanding of the game’s core principles before venturing into the unknown, and a streamlined user interface, Warframe is more ready than ever for new players to join its ranks.

The Xbox One version of the free-to-play third-person shooter comes with SmartGlass support, as well as GameDVR functionality and, evidently, achievements.

The game had its share of problems way back, but the developers have been constantly improving it since its launch, and if they play their cards right, Waframe might just end up being a pretty solid alternative to Destiny, for players who find that Destiny’s first-person shooter isn’t quite what they want.

Warframe is scheduled for launch on the Xbox One on September 2, allowing owners of Microsoft’s next-gen platforms to play the role of robotic space ninjas.
