The development team at Digital Extremes has released the first gameplay-based trailer for their free-to-play shooter Warframe, showing off how the various robotic costumes of the game will fight one another in a number of arenas.

Warframe is played from the third-person and uses a science fiction theme, allowing gamers to equip their battlesuits with a variety of powers.

The game will include a number of procedurally generated arenas where gamers can engage in Player versus Environment action to gather experience and upgrade their characters.

They will then be able to customize their abilities and jump into arenas to battle other human players.

Digital Extremes is best known for the work they have done on The Darkness 2 and its weird combat abilities, which seem to have influenced some of the ideas for Warframe.

The game will get a closed beta during northern winter and a wide release during 2013.
