Warframe, the fast-paced acrobatic shooter from Digital Extremes, is celebrating its first year of proper activity and is giving away a special weapon for all fans of the free-to-play experience.

Warframe came out last year on the PC as a new multiplayer-only shooter that placed a big emphasis on agility and acrobatic moves, as opposed to other, more traditional titles in the genre. The game accompanied the PlayStation 4 at launch, delivering the same great experience on the new Sony console, thanks to a great partnership between the Japanese company and the European developer.

Since then, quite a few different updates have brought fresh content on both platforms and now, in the middle of April, Warframe is celebrating its first year of activity and is offering fans a special free weapon called the Dex Furis.

"In celebration of Warframe’s first year, and to thank all who have helped build Warframe into what it is today, The Lotus is gifting each Tenno with a First Anniversary Edition of the Dex Furis. Featuring an accurate high fire rate and low recoil, this Lotus-themed weapon also includes an additional weapon slot and is super-charged with a catalyst," the studio said on the PS blog.

In order to redeem the free gift, players must log into Warframe and open a message in their inbox to see the gun sent to their in-game Arsenal before April 21.

Besides this free DLC, a special premium Excalibur Proto-Armor Skin is also available in honor of the anniversary.

"Also, marking this special occasion, the Excalibur Proto-Armor Skin has been unearthed. Available for a limited time only, this ancient skin is a reflection of Tenno past. Discovering the precise nature of this recently uncovered armored prototype has proved elusive. Initial attempts at dating the relic point to ancient origins, perhaps even pre-dating the Orokin Empire."

This new skin is available also until April 21 via the in-game Market.

Digital Extremes has also confirmed that it's just a few weeks away from launching update 13 for Warframe on the PlayStation 4, which brings all sorts of major additions to the free-to-play game.

First up, there's a new water-based Warframe called the Hydroid, not to mention different weapons, new sentinels, and a special "crazy new boss battle."

Once the update goes live, players will also be able to explore the Dark Sectors solar rail system, and the studio also promises some special surprises tailored to the PS4 community, so expect to hear more soon.
