Crytek's free-to-play first-person shooter MMO Warface has so far managed to attract over 25 million user registrations.

The impressive number was reached in just under two years since the shooter first took off in Russia, in April 2012, on PC. It wasn't until later, in October 2013, that the game was released in North America, Europe, Turkey, Korea and Brazil, but by then it was one of the most anticipated free-to-play games of the year.

"It is a fantastic achievement for our franchise and for our teams, and we'd like to thank Warface players everywhere for their support," said Cevat Yerli, Crytek's CEO, regarding the milestone.

He explained that Warface is part of the company's "games-as-service" business model, meaning that the game's community is what drives the developers in their efforts.

"We look forward to delivering more of the great gameplay experiences that they have come to expect, and can promise the growing ranks of Warface fans that the franchise still has lots of surprises in store," Yerli shared.

The game just went into open beta on Microsoft's Xbox 360 home entertainment system, after concluding its closed beta test phase, with three Versus modes and two Co-op ones. The game is currently only available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers.
