Warner's Legendary Pictures has bought movie rights to Blizzard's award-winning "World of Warcraft" video game series and wants to produce a live-action film based on the hugely popular property.
"Warcraft" is not a single game, but consists of 4 titles, the first one being created in 1994. The multi-player online universe of Warcraft has over six million subscribers. Only the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Halo" franchises rival that scale.
The movie is more likely to be set in the epic fantasy universe, which includes orcs, trolls, elves and the undead.
Wikipedia.com describes the game as the fictional universe in which the Warcraft series of computer games is set. Known worlds of this fantasy universe are Azeroth (homeworld of the Humans) and Draenor (homeworld of the Orcs). As the name implies the Warcraft Universe largely revolves around conflict with the two major factions, the Alliance and the Horde.
The setting was very much inspired by the Warhammer Fantasy games, and, to some extent, the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse. The fantasy works of J. R. R. Tolkien also served as a foundation; many of the races are patterned after Tolkien's, and place-names are often made to sound like Sindarin, the predominant Elvish language used in Lord of the Rings."
Taking into account the success of the two Resident Evil games translated to the big screen, Warcraft- the Movie is due o be a huge hit.
