War Thunder just launched its Ground Forces expansion, allowing players all around the world to engage in land battles while other zip overhead in various historically accurate war planes.

After months and months of testing, developer Gaijin Entertainment has finally introduced the armored vehicles division part of the warfare simulation to the world of War Thunder.

Most of the world knows War Thunder as a free to play aerial combat game, and in case you ever wondered just where the planes went when you shot them out of the sky, you just got your answer.

Unlike World Of Tanks, War Thunder: Ground Forces integrates armored vehicle combat with the warplane action, offering a much more interesting type of experience. The only thing missing now is the sea battle part, which will surely roll in at some point in the future.

Gaijin’s main goal from the initiation of their foray into ground combat was to deliver a realistic ground warfare experience to their fans, and they certainly achieved it, if we are to believe the feedback from the game’s beta.

“Our goal from the beginning with War Thunder was to create a game that allows players to safely experience the perils of a full scale world war. The rumble you hear in the distance, is the sound of many of our six million players launching their earth shaking attacks using heavily armored ground forces. Players who prefer aerial battles better keep one eye in the air and one eye on the ground because the Ground Forces Expansion has launched!,” said Anton Yudintsev, CEO of Gaijin Entertainment.

The Ground Forces part of War Thunder has launched with a variety of German and Russian tanks to choose from, coming in the expected options of light, medium and heavy. In addition to regular tanks, there are also self-propelled artillery cannons and anti-air guns, which will play a crucial role in the Combined Arms mode, where players in various aircraft will play a significant role in ground battles.

Gaijin is planning to introduce many new maps and vehicles to Ground Forces, but there are also some updates coming for fans of plane piloting that are incoming soon, in the form of ten new aircraft and a bunch of tweaks and improvements to War Thunder.
