MMA fighter War Machine, real name John Koppenhaver, is currently in prison, facing 32 charges stemming from the August 8 attack on his former girlfriend, adult star Christy Mack, and a male friend of hers he found at her residence when he broke in and started beating them senseless.

Mack’s account and the police record of the incident paint the fighter as a brute, a jealous ex-boyfriend who broke into her home and tried to kill her because she was hanging out with another man, even though they had broken up some months before.

She is still in recovery from the very serious but non-life threatening injuries she sustained. As War Machine sees it, she should be thankful she’s not dead because, by all means, he should have killed her.

War Machine is defending himself in letter to friend

The fighter penned a letter to a friend, defending his actions on that night and lamenting his cruel fate. The friend sold the letter to TMZ, which is now running it in full, offering an insight into the fighter’s mind – and his plans to defend himself in the upcoming trial.

As noted above, he’s facing 32 charges and a lifetime in prison, including attempted murder and attempted rape, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and assault with severe bodily harm.

It’s all a setup, he believes, telling his friend that “the way she is lying is crazy bro!” “I mean just like 2 days earlier she’s telling me to hurry up and get her a ring and [expletive], how do you go from that to flat out likes to protect some other dude and her ‘image’?,” War Machine asks.

He argues that the other “dude” jumped him in the bedroom, and that the way he acted that night was “self-defense 100%.” He had no other choice but to beat them within an inch of their life because they had “ambushed” him in the bedroom.

He “should” have killed her

“Even if I wasn’t ambushed they still would have got what they deserved! In Texas you could have shot them both and got off with that ‘passion crime’ [expletive],” War Machine writes, arguing that he should have killed her ex to prevent her from spreading lies about him.

He laments his fate and claims that, this time, he doesn’t deserve to be locked in prison, much less face a lifetime of this. The worst part of it all is that he’d just gotten everything going just perfectly for him when this happened. It’s almost as if he’s cursed, he bemoans.

War Machine also encourages the friend to spread the word on news that he designed two new t-shirts that he plans to sell through his website. The money will be used to pay for his legal fees, which are already staking up, “bro.”

A history of criminal behavior

War Machine has been trying to paint himself as a victim since before he was apprehended by cops after the beating. For days in a row after the attack, he was on the run from police but tweeting like crazy about how he didn’t want to turn himself in because no one would believe him when he said he was acting in self-defense.

Whether there’s any trace of truth in his words is not up for us to decide, but for the judge and jury. Still, there’s no denying the fact that he has a history of violence and that he’s already done time in jail on assault related charges.

Before the attack, War Machine caused controversy by “joking” on Twitter about raping his lover, the same Christy, and about beating her senseless. In her statement after the violent episode, she claimed that this wasn’t the first time he beat her up, so maybe he wasn’t joking after all.
