Microsoft announced the fact that it will open up its current hardware technologies licensing program to additional developers. According to the Redmond Company, contract manufacturers, outsourced design and manufacturing firms will be able from now on to enjoy the benefits of the U2 licensing program. The Windows Vista edition of Magnifier will be reflected in an updated version of the company's licensing portfolio and as such be made available to the industry.

Computex Taipei 2007 was the stage where Microsoft informed that its hardware licensing program enjoyed enormous success with a 250% year-over-year growth. Increase in both the hardware licenses and the licensing deals performed has further fueled the progress of Microsoft IP licensing program.

"As Microsoft Hardware celebrates the second anniversary of its first intellectual property licensing program, a growing number of peripheral industry licensees continue to roll out products with Microsoft innovations. We believe our licensing program promotes global awareness and respect for intellectual property to benefit our industry," said Rusty Jeffress, general manager of Microsoft Hardware. "Microsoft Hardware is at the forefront of innovation in this category and cooperates with licensees in the industry who share the same respect for IP and the value it brings to their customers."

Following the evolution of the Microsoft hardware licensing program, contract manufacturers and outsourced design and manufacturing firms can access a simplified method for license transfer. Microsoft has streamlined the licensing and incorporation of U2, Tilt Wheel and Magnifier technologies into third party products. "As a multitechnology licensee, including the Tilt Wheel, Magnifier and U2 technologies, we are able to further our goal of providing both our BTC brand customers and OEM customers with great products," said Jarl Chang, director of sales at Behavior Technology Corp. "We are proud to work with Microsoft as we improve the user experience through innovation via licensing."
