Adobe announces Lightroom 6 will need a 64-bit OS to work

Earlier this month we told you that Adobe finally announced the Lightroom editing service for Android smartphones.

But Adobe is also working towards a new desktop version, which will be released as Lightroom 6. However, you'll have to bear in mind that if you want to take advantage of the new version, you’ll need to upgrade to the latest operating system.

Adobe has announced that Lighroom 6 will be compatible only with 64-bit operating systems, hoping that this way, photographers will have time to get their hardware and software ready.

So expect Lightroom 6 to be compatible with at least OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (in the Mac camp) and the 64-bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1

The company has taken this decision in order to make it possible to implement certain user-requested features which require a 64-bit operating system to function. So Adobe is choosing to by-pass trying to make their program compatible with older hardware.

What happens if you are running a 32-bit operating system and you want to stick with it, for some reason or another? Well, you can continue making use of Lightroom 5, but expect no updates in the future.

However, that means you’ll end up missing out on some features, so you'd better start considering upgrading to 64-bit instead.
