Eager to put the available SSD controllers to good use, Walton Chaintech has announced that it has completed the development of three new lines of solid state drives, all bearing the Apogee brand.

Not long ago, Foremay revealed the arrival of a number of new compact solid state drives, all using the 1.8-inch form factor.

Now, Taipei-based Walton Chaintech has expanded the collection of Apogee-branded SSDs.

What the company did is offer a total of three new complete lines of such devices, two of which are powered by Indilinx controllers while the third uses SandForce.

The C-Series and L-Series are the ones that make use of the former, but have different specs overall.

The C-Series, for instance, includes models of 30 GB to 120 GB and can achieve read and write speeds of 250 MB/s and 180 MB/s, respectively. They also feature 64 MB of cache.

The second line, L, also has 64 MB of cache and up to 120 GB in capacity, but their own Indilinx controllers only manage read and write speeds of 125 to 150 MB/s and 70 to 120 MB/s, respectively.

The third line of products, the A-Series, makes use of the significantly more popular and powerful SandForce controllers.

As such, they read data at up to 285 MB/s, write it at 275 MB/s and boast a 4K writing performance of up to 50,000 IOPS.

The A drives also have a maximum capacity of 120 GB (the minimum is 60 GB) and support the TRIM command.

For those interested in a reminder, the TRIM command in Windows 7 keeps erasing 'deleted' sectors so as to preserve performance over time.

As for the actual design, Walton Chaintech built its new inventions with casings measuring 99.8 x 69.63 x 9.3mm (they use the 2.5-inch form factor).

Unfortunately, the official announcement held no sort of information on pricing.
