Walter Zenga's adventure in Serbia& Montenegro - started when the two were forming the same European country - has officially ended today. Although it has been rumored that the Red
Star Belgrade officials were trying to get rid of their Italian coach - after his wife's affirmations towards the Serbian people in a past interview - everything is now over.
The new coach of Red Star Belgrade is Serbian Dusan Bajevic. After finishing the season with a perfect score - winning both the Serbian premiership and the Cup - Walter Zenga faces his second failure in an eastern League in the last two years. And that's not at all because he has done a bad job as a coach. If he's so determined to look for reasons for his two bad experiences in football during the last 2 years, he doesn't have to look too far.
It's quite simple actually. His first experience - at Steaua Bucharest - ended because of his employer, who fired him after he was leading the first division and had 3 more rounds to go. More, he qualified Steaua for the first time in the "European Spring", after more than 10 years of waiting. And the second one ended with his wife's big mouth in the Serbian newspapers. Unfortunately, Zenga was always the one who had to pay the price.
But he might continue very well, at least financially, since most of the Quatar and Arabian teams want him on their bench. And they're quite willingly to pay good money too. Still, for a young coach like him, who has always searched European recognition so that he can return to Inter's bench - his dream ever since he started coaching - the Quatar job will most likely endanger his return at one of the biggest clubs of Europe.
Nevertheless, he could be heading back to Romania, to one of the big-spending clubs of the First Division, Poli Timisoara, since the clubs' owner stated repeatedly that he wants a young and experienced coach on his team. Only the future will tell what Zenga's next move will be.
