Walt Disney Pictures in collaboration with producer Jerry Bruckheimer are planning a "National Treasure" sequel, due to the surprise hit that marked the biggest film of Nicolas Cage's career, reports Reuters.

Gregory Poirier will write the movie and as director was hired Jon Turteltaub

"National Treasure," released in November, presents the story of the brilliant Benjamin Franklin Gates, played by Nicholas Cage, who's searching for a treasure no one believed existed.

In a race against time, Gates must elude the FBI, stay one step ahead of his ruthless adversary (Bean), decipher the remaining clues and unlock the 2000 year-old mystery behind our greatest national treasure.
