As it turns out, Walmart has a stronger hold on people than anyone would ever dream to credit it with. In fact, Walmart is so powerful and mighty that, with just a few simple texts, it can get people to confess to murder.

If you're having trouble believing this, allow us to introduce you to a piece of news what will surely lift the veil off your eyes and forever change the way you carry yourself when shopping at one Walmart store or another.

The story of 55-year-old Matthew Gibson

Not too long ago, a 55-year-old man named Matthew Gibson traveled from North Carolina all the way to Arizona for the sole purpose of confessing to a murder that he committed about 17 years ago.

The man simply walked into a police station in the city of Winslow and told detectives here that, back in 1997, he killed a woman he met in Bullhead City, near the Colorado River.

Matthew Gibson detailed that, after hooking up with the woman one night, he took her park to his trailer, where they spent some time together. Eventually, he decided that he no longer wanted her around.

When the woman refused to leave, the two got into an argument and Matthew Hibson grabbed a flashlight which he used to beat her to death. Afterwards, he simply disposed of her body.

Although the woman's body was eventually discovered and an investigation into the circumstances of her death was launched, the police failed to figure out who the person responsible for this horrific murder was.

“His name was never in any report. We didn't even know he existed,” assistant prosecutor Jace Zack said in a statement, as cited by Daily Mail. “I am 100 per cent certain that he would not have been caught if he didn't turn himself in,” he added.

Now that he has confessed to the murder of Barbara Leone Brown, from Arizona, 55-year-old Matthew Gibson is to spend 10 years behind bars.

What does Walmart have to do with anything?

What's positively wacky about this piece of news is the fact that, by the looks of it, it was Walmart that got the 55-year-old man to confess to the murder he committed nearly 2 decades ago.

Thus, it is understood that, quite by mistake, Walmart started sending Matthew Gibson text and voice messages that the man found positively cryptic. In these messages, Walmart kept telling him that the prescription for one Anita Townsend was ready for pickup.

The man assumed that somebody at Walmart knew everything about the murder he committed back in 1997, and was trying to blackmail him. Seeing how guilt was already tormenting him, he decided that the best he could do was to turn himself in. Hence his decision to drive from North Carolina to Arizona and talk to the police.

“Only the good Lord knows what that night was all about, but I'm deeply sorry for that night. For years now, I have weeped over this and it has been heavy on my soul,” the man wrote in his confession. It is understood that, at the time he killed this woman, Matthew Gibson was addicted to cocaine and methamphetamine.
