The developers at Telltale Games that have created The Walking Dead adventure game series say that they have made their main character black because it meshed well with the Georgian setting, but also so that they could explore how race influenced his reactions.

Developers Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman are quoted by PCGamesN as saying that, “The Walking Dead features a black man in the leading role. But while it’s not about race, it has to feature the politics of race in the game context to be honest.”

The team also wanted to challenge some of the assumptions of the player base and mix their experience with that of the protagonist.

The Walking Dead episodic game series was very successful and the team is currently planning to launch a second season later during the year.

Fans should keep their saves in order to see how their actions have influenced the cast of characters.
