The supposedly Nazi wrapping paper was spotted by a customer this past weekend, has since been pulled off shelves

This Holiday season, US retailing chain Walgreens had the really lousy idea to try and make a few bucks selling Hanukkah wrapping paper sporting a geometric border design that, at least according to some people, has teeny tiny swastika shapes included in it.

The wrapping paper's horrific border design failed to catch the eye of Walgreens employees or even regular folks for a fairly long while. It did, however, got the attention of an elderly woman living in Los Angeles.

Possibly the worst geometric border design ever

Media reports say that, this past weekend, the woman, identified as Cheryl Shapiro, decided to spend some time browsing around a Walgreens store in her home city. When she entered the store, she had no idea she was in for the surprise of a lifetime.

It is understood that, while walking around the Los Angeles Walgreens store accompanied by her grandson, the woman chanced to lay eyes on the now highly controversial Hannukkah wrapping paper. Almost immediately, Cheryl Shapiro spotted the swastikas on it.

Looking to help Walgreens fix its dreadful mistake, the Jewish woman asked to speak to the store's manager. Having been introduced to him, she demanded that the wrapping paper be pulled off shelves not just in Los Angeles, but all across the country.

“I told them I wanted this taken off the shelves immediately – not just your store, but national. I was really putting my foot down because I was appalled by this. I think I have a good eye,” Cheryl Shapiro explained in an interview, as cited by International Business Times.

Apparently, the woman even went as far as to call her rabbi and tell him all about this incident as soon as she returned home with her grandson. “He couldn't believe it,” Cheryl Shapiro summed up his reaction. “I'm still very upset about it, that something like this could be on the market,” she added.

Walgreens was quick to give in to the woman's demands

Rather than dismiss this woman's claims that Walgreens Hanukkah wrapping paper marketed all across the country for this year's holiday season had Nazi symbols included in its border design, the retail chain did just what was asked of it.

Thus, word has it that, not long after Cheryl Shapiro had her not-so-pleasant chat with the store manager in Los Angeles, Walgreens got busy pulling the allegedly offensive wrapping paper off shelves. It is unclear how much of it had been sold before this scandal broke out.

Needless to say, there are many who believe Cheryl Shapiro overreacted and that there was no need for Walgreens to stop selling this wrapping paper.
