As of today, XXX websites will be able to have addresses based on the .xxx domain.

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers decided that after .travel, .jobs, .tv and other similar domains, it will allow from now on the use of the .xxx suffix.

ICM Registry, the company that has submitted the proposal for the approval of .xxx domains will take care of the technical aspects and prices regarding the registering process for this type of new addresses.

Addresses of the type www.pornsite.xxx will help users to identify rapidly a certain site and it will now be easier to restrict the access of children to materials unsuitable for their age.

The pornographic sites' industry, which is a business of 12 billions USD, will probably have access to the new domains starting from the 3'rd or 4'th quarters of this year, says ICANN.

The sites that decide to use such addresses will have to uphold the rules established by the non-profit organization International Foundation For Online Responsibility.

The registering of .xxx domains is optional, meaning that porn sites cannot be forced into buying these addresses, still being able to function also in .com, but according to ICM Registry several major players in this industry announced their interest for this type of domains.

The development of .xxx domains has also been attempted in 2001, but ICANN rejected the idea at that moment.
