Publisher THQ has offered more details linked to the way it will be implementing the Road to WretleMania mode in the upcoming WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, which is set to arrive on the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS2 and PlayStation Portable on October 26 in the United States and three days later in Europe.

THQ says that, “This year, players will truly feel what it’s like to live the life of a WWE Superstar as they deal with the choices and realities of a backstage environment with more freedom and player choice. Along the way, players will form alliances or make enemies backstage that impact the Road to WrestleMania journey.”

The Road of WrestleMania storylines allow players to experience a narrative involving: Christian, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, John Cena and Undertaker, in a “versus” system which allows the player to battle superstars as John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler or a player created character.

The mode will ask players not only to perform well in the ring but also to solve puzzles, complete challenges and get access to hidden items, unlocking both superstars from the WWE and legends from the history of the franchise.

THQ plans on offering decisions which affect the course of the story in order to make the player feel like his actual actions are those that determine the final result of the game mode.

The publisher emphasizes the television inspired presentation of the Road to WrestleMania mode, with interviews taking place after all matches and with a different arena playing host to the event every week.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 also has role playing game elements, with gamers earning Superstar Points that can then spent in the training room to increase their attributes, meaning that specialization is a must and no one can be a jack of all trades.
