Developers must now purchase their ticket until April 14

The WWDC14 ticket lottery is over. Apple is announcing the winners and the losers via email, with a seven-day window of actually plucking $1,599 (€1,163) for the ticket. The event will be held June 2 through June 6 at San Francisco’s Moscone West.

Unlike previous years, when tickets sold out to the people who were awake at the time sales opened, Apple is now using a lottery system that empowers everyone interested in WWDC to apply for a spot and receive later confirmation regarding the status of their order. There are just 5,000 spots at the event.

Developers who nabbed a spot at the conference are told, “We have great news! You’ve been randomly selected to buy a ticket to WWDC. Please make sure to complete your purchase by 5:00 p.m. PDT on April 14, 2014 [...] It’s going to be an exciting conference and we look forward to seeing you there.”

The unlucky ones are being notified in a similar manner that the lottery system did not yield a purchase opportunity for them.

“Thank you for registering for the random selection process to attend WWDC 2014. Unfortunately, you were not selected to purchase a ticket. However, you can still take advantage of great WWDC content. We’ll be posting sessions videos, slides, and sample code throughout the week for all Registered Apple Developers. We appreciate your support.”

The Cupertino company awards a limited number of student developers with the opportunity to attend based on a scholarship. Submissions will be accepted between April 11 and April 14.

According to reports, the opening keynote will be streamed live, so that’s another nugget of WWDC that grounded developers can take advantage of.

“We have the most amazing developer community in the world and have a great week planned for them,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in announcing the schedule for WWDC 2014.

“Every year the WWDC audience becomes more diverse, with developers from almost every discipline you can imagine and coming from every corner of the globe. We look forward to sharing with them our latest advances in iOS and OS X so they can create the next generation of great apps.”

WWDC 2014 activities include over 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on developing, deploying, and integrating new technologies in iOS and OS X, more than 100 hands-on labs and events, a new series of get-togethers focused on specific topics featuring special guests, and the annual Apple Design Awards that recognize excellence in application design.
