With Apple's WWDC so close, and everyone expecting all kinds of new products, the rumors are going into the final stretch.
While Apple has stated that it will be previewing Leopard,
and everyone is in consensus that they will be doing that on new Mac Pros, everything else is up for grabs for the rumormongers. As usual, the iPhone remains the most beloved of rumors that never goes out of trend and can never see enough fakes. Although recently Apple has hinted that it is working on something along these lines, a rare thing for Apple, it is not at all likely that they will be announcing a product so soon after hinting at its existence.
Of course, fakes of iPhones are everywhere, the most popular so far being the "iChat Mobile" which was picked up by Engadget, and featured in a video
here. Of course, not long after, another video appeared, which proves it is a
fake, made by the very same person as the original.
Over the course of this weekend, more rumors will be spreading about any and all Apple products. At this point, it is easier to go the opposite way and make a list of what we can be sure will not happen, and will not be announced.
Daniel Eran has compiled a very solid list of commonly repeated ideas that have zero chance of happening for RoughlyDrafted:
■ Red Box WINE or Windows Virtualization - Not going to happen.
■ Use of Linux Kernel - Linux isn't even in the running.
■ Microkernel Removal - Nothing wrong with the kernel.
■ An Intel-Only Leopard - It will be Universal.
■ The End of an open Darwin project - The kernel not going to stay closed.
■ iPod based Phone - It will be a phone, not a music player that can place calls.
■ Self-Destructing Rental Media - Exploding media is lame.
■ Skins on anything are not going to happen.
