The WVIL camera concept that has just showed up on the net may be the future of photo and video cameras.

Since the performance and image quality that such devices can attain is already very high, companies may have to start searching for new product assets.

It so happens that Artefact came up with a way to provide both versatility and aesthetics.

Its WVIL camera concept illustrates a camera made of two pieces: the control point, similar to a smartphone, and the SLR-quality optics.

The latter can be detached and placed anywhere, after which the touch-based smartphone-like 'remote control' can be used for focus and zooming, applying gradients, etc.

No clue yet on whether or not any company will pick up the design or if Artefact will get enough funding to build and market the WVIL itself.

Go here for more information about this idea, that may or may not actually become reality.
