It is equal parts range extender and standalone wireless port really

Since wireless routers just don't seem to cut it anymore, unless they're overpowered types with dual-band coverage like the Archer C7 from TP-LINK, hybrid network components are being released.

One such hybrid product has been revealed by Diamond Multimedia and bears the name of WR300NR, which doesn't really say much about it.

The product is unusual though, because it merges the abilities of four different wireless network components.

It explains why the full name is WR300NR Wireless Extender & Router, though even that name is insufficient.

After all, the newcomer is not only a standalone wireless access point, but it also acts as a wireless bridge device, a repeater and range extender and, of course, wireless router.

It is all made stranger by the fact that the product is meant to go in a power socket. It looks much like a Powerline AV adapter.

Spec-wise, the newcomer can create WiFi hotspots immediately, anywhere, so long as there is an Internet connection available. There are even two Gigabit LAN ports at the bottom, which means it can pick up both wired and wireless connections.

Speaking of Wi-Fi, the supported specification is 802.11b/g/n. As for the LAN, one of the ports is 10/100Base-T Ethernet port and one 10/100Base-T WAN interface.

Backwards compatibility with 802.11b/g router or access points further expand the usefulness of the WR300NR.

All in all, everything is present for the support of smart TVs, PCs, Nintendo Wii, Xbox, Sony PlayStation game consoles, smartphones, tablets, headsets, eyewear like Google Glass, etc.

Needless to say, media players, Blu-ray players and printers made it on that list as well.

“The WR300NR is a perfect solution for adding a wireless network to your home. It can be directly connected to your DSL/Cable modem providing a complete wired and wireless environment,” the company wrote in its announcement.

Sales should already be underway for $49.99 / €37.42.
