It has been a long wait, that's for sure, yet users of an HTC Touch Pro2 handset on Sprint's network can now enjoy the Windows Mobile 6.5 update the Taiwanese mobile phone maker and their wireless carrier have just made available for download. The solution was already rumored to be on its way to the device, especially since other carriers released it a few months ago, and now it all went official.

HTC has already posted the Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the Sprint Touch Pro2 on its support website, and those interested in it can head over there to download and install it. And it seems that the software includes the Manila version 2.5, just as expected before, not to mention that there are a series of other enhancements that users can enjoy.

Here's what HTC notes on the new release: The software upgrade posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Touch Pro2. These enhancements are: - Upgraded OS to Windows Mobile 6.5 - Added HTC Sense UI enhancements - Improved Social Networking integration - Includes a variety of minor bug fixes."

Those willing to perform the upgrade should first make sure that the new ROM is newer than the software already running on the device. To do so, one will have to go to Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > System > Device Information, and then note the ROM version and Radio version. “Users should not attempt to load an older version of Touch Pro2 software after loading version 2.04.651.4. Please delete any earlier versions of the Touch Pro2 software you may have downloaded previously to your PC,” HTC also notes.

The update process can be performed via a Windows PC. Users will need to connect their handset to the computer, and then perform a Backup of all files on the Touch Pro2. The battery level on the handset should be at least 50 percent, and the company also notes that the update will take about 25 minutes to complete. All the necessary details, as well as the downloadable ROM, are available on HTC's support website here.
