Uniden, a manufacturer of wireless electronic devices, and Microsoft have announced a partnership to deliver a dual-phone which integrates the functionality of Windows Live Messenger and that of a normal landline phone.
The WIN 1200 is a 5.8 GHz digital cordless phone that will allow users to make phone calls at low costs using the Microsoft service provided they have an Internet connection.
Customers will be able
to perform PC-to-PC calls for free using Windows Live Messenger, PC-to-phone calls at low cost using Windows Live Messenger with MCI Web Calling service, or make calls using the traditional landline service.
The WIN 1200 can display the Messenger contact list allowing customers to see if their friends are online or change their own online status. Users can also download the contact list to the phone's phonebook.
Other features include full color LCD screen, USB, Integrisound for life-like audio, user-friendly interface, 3-way conferencing with Messenger calls and landline calls, and a 2.5 mm headset jack.
"Together with Microsoft, Uniden is paving the way to deliver a cutting-edge communications product," stated Rich Tosi, president of Uniden. "The integrated WIN 1200 will continue to raise the bar in voice communications by allowing VoIP and a traditional landline to co-exist, expanding a variety of telephony options to consumers in a single unit."
The device is expected to be launched by May this year.
