Western Digital has released its latest My Book Live NAS firmware version, namely 02.41.05-034. This package will add support for File History backups when using Microsoft Windows 8 operating system, and streaming of MKV file extensions to Samsung HDTVs.

This new firmware will remove the “View My Files” link from the dashboard because of the needs of installing Java, which caused browsers to frequently ask for installing it.

Also, error pop-up messages, within various sections of the dashboard for certain devices, are resolved, and establishing a remote access connection using a Linksys or Cisco E4200 router will now be possible.

Before you consider upgrading, know that your OS must have the latest updates installed and if the device’s firmware version is 02.10.12-129 or earlier, it must be updated to version 02.11.09-053 first.

To start the update process, firstly make sure that the device is connected to a stable power source, so that no damage is done, and then from the dashboard, go to Settings → Updates → Update from File and select the downloadable file – and that’s quite all.

So, follow the link below, get the downloadable file, and update your device.
