Western Digital has outed a new variant of its external hard drive universal firmware updater, namely version 3.2.5.1 (Windows) and 3.2.4.4C (Mac OS), which fixes a compatibility issue encountered when the system wakes up from standby mode.

Specifically speaking, both Windows and Mac OS packages allow you to upgrade the My Book Duo external HDD to firmware 1.026, which resolves the problem where the drive wouldn’t be visible on some systems that match the aforementioned circumstances.

Therefore, if you have been bothered by this bug, then save and unzip the proper downloadable package, run the available setup, agree with the EULA terms and conditions, and follow the on-screen instructions for a complete upgrade.

However, prior to performing this task you should have backed up all important files found on the drive so that no data loss is encountered, and make sure to connect the external HDD directly to the computer’s USB port and not into a USB hub.

Moreover, when a notebook in used, do charge it before starting the update. In the event where the notebook battery is low and the device turns off, not only that the update will crash, but it will also cause serious malfunctions to the drive.

That being said, download WD Universal Firmware Updater 3.2.5.1 or download WD Universal Firmware Updater 3.2.4.4C for Mac OS, take into account all aspects described above, and upgrade your external hard drive.
