14 DAY TRIAL // Western Digital, one of the world's leading vendors of storage products, has just announced that it has expanded its family of My Book external hard drivers with the addition of a single-drive solution that boasts an impressive 2TB of storage space. With the announcement, Western Digital has basically expanded its successful My Book family of external drives to provide a solution for almost any type of user. The 2TB model will be available as an option in the following editions: My Book Studio Edition, My Book Mac Edition, My Book Home Edition and My Book Essential Edition.
“The popularity among consumers of high-definition video cameras, digital photography and digital music downloads means that users are filling up their computers with massive amounts of digital content as fast as they can click 'save.' As the volume and value of users digital content grows, backing up data on multiple CDs or DVDs becomes time consuming and inconvenient,” said Jim Welsh, senior vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups.
According to the storage vendor, its My Book external drives now feature support for up to 2TB of storage space, capacity gauge, an environmentally friendly design and a Kensington Security Slot. All of these features are meant to provide the user with a high-capacity external storage solution that is secure and easy to use. In addition, depending on each model, these external drives offer a wide range of connectivity options, including eSata, FireWire 400/800 and the ever popular USB 2.0.
According to Western Digital, the my Book Studio Edition, My Book Home Edition and My Book Essential Edition with 2TB of storage space are available at select retail stores and online retailers, while the My Book Mac Edition with 2TB of space will become available next month. Price wise, these solutions should range between US$330 to US$380.
