Western Digital has released a new firmware for its My Book Live Duo NAS (Network Attached Storage), version 02.41.05-34, which holds a handful of fixes for the audio-video files. It’s recommended that the operating system has all the latest updates installed before starting the upgrade process.

This firmware, like My Book Live’s firmware, resolves the remote access connection issue and takes out “View My Files” link. Additionally, it helps the update process to complete on 8 TB drives that have over 6 TB used space.

Also, it fixes issues with music files that are not sorted by track number in album view, jpg files not indexing or displaying after copying, and thumbnails whose generation is quite slow.

Moreover, non-English characters in mp3 files are now displayed correctly, mp4 files are recognized on Samsung HDTV, “Unknown” artist tags improper indexing is fixed, and m4p files, which were misclassified as a video format, are now recognized as audio files.

So, in order to get the update, from the main dashboard you should go to Settings → System Tab → Updates → Update from File, and choose the file contained in the downloadable zip archive. Once the upgrade process is finished, the system will reboot, at which point the operation is a success.
