14 DAY TRIAL // Vyatta has released the latest version of its router/firewall Linux operating system. Vyatta 6.0 is now ready for networking experts and businesses looking for an open-source alternative to put it through its paces. A big feature in this release is the new Remote Access API, which allows developers to create tools for controlling the router or include functionality in their existing applications.
With Vyatta 6.0, the company also introduced a new tiering system. The base operating system will be released as Vyatta Core and will be available for free as an open-source project. Paying customers of the Subscription Edition will get commercial support, more tools (including the Remote Access API) and other exclusive features. Finally, Vyatta Plus customers get even more features including the VyattaGuard Web Filtering.
"Vyatta version 6.0 includes the new Vyatta Remote Access API which enables customers to control Vyatta systems using in-house and third-party network management and provisioning systems. This version of Vyatta includes more than 30 enhancements for both the Vyatta Core and Vyatta Subscription Edition, and introduces the first Vyatta Plus enhanced services," the company announced in the press release.
"Version 6 also marks the move to an open-core delivery model where Vyatta will maintain a single, open ‘core’ code base which is available as Vyatta Core 6.0 (VC6) and is also incorporated into the Vyatta Subscription Edition. This model enables Vyatta to innovate even faster by accelerating the delivery of updates to all Vyatta users at the same time," Vyatta also added.
