Vyatta Inc - the company that builds commercially supported, open-source networking solutions that provide an alternative to over-priced, inflexible products from proprietary vendors - announced yesterday the
immediate availability of the fourth major release of their Open Source Linux distribution, Vyatta 4.0.

"Vyatta's performance and functionality have been so great we are standardizing large parts of our network on it," said the President of Zito Media, James Rigas. "The increased scalability of Vyatta means we will be able to use it in even more places. The price/performance is compelling, and it positions us to provide a superior product to our customers at very competitive prices. And with the same software image everywhere, managing Vyatta is far easier and lower-cost than dealing with proprietary products with fragmented software strategies."

Vyatta Linux combines firewall, VPN and router capabilities into a single and unique solution that tries to deliver twice the performance of proprietary network solutions at half the price. This fourth version of Vyatta brings the following new features over previous versions:

Improved Scalability - Vyatta 4.0 is now able to scale from DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) to 10 Gigabit Ethernet environments.
10x Price/Performance Advantage - Vyatta 4.0 comes packed with a new routing technology for improved performance.
Enhanced Features for Large Network Environments - QoS, remote access VPN, role-based access control, and the new Fusion management interface are all part of the new Vyatta 4.0 Linux.
Support for Smaller Networks - The forth release of Vyatta introduces support for PPPoE, dynamic interface IP addresses and WLAN load balancing, which will make the life of smaller networks (DSL or cable connections) easier than ever!

The CEO of Vyatta, Kelly Herrell, says: "Vyatta is delivering the new network operating system - a single image that scales across the network, and includes a range of applications required in the real world."
