Virtual reality gets closer than never, as Vuzix manufacturer began a major shipping of its iWear VR920 video eyewear. The item was first designed for PC gaming and simulation, even though the manufacturers used the latest technology when creating it. In fact, it is said that it features the same technology the U.S. Military uses, as the company's representatives say.

Though you might look a little bit too much like Captain La Forge with those on, the eyeglasses were enhanced with VGA progressive scan LCDs, offering support for up to 1024 x 768 pixels resolution, as well as a pretty good view angle of 32 degrees for a virtual screen measuring up to 64 inches from 9 feet.

Besides that, the eyewear sports a built-in microphone and some adjustable headphone support VoIP communications. There is a useful 6-foot slim cable included with the mini USB connectivity for power, tracking and full duplex audio support, as well as a VGA connector.

The coolest feature seems to be the integrated 3 DOF head-tracker that lets users around inside the virtual worlds, as if they were there. That's spooky!

Those are new additions to Vuzix's portfolio, as they boast Plug-and-Play video for virtually all the PC applications, as well as full 3D support for thousands of pre-existing applications. There are a couple of heavy titles out there, such as the Microsoft's Flight Simulator X, World of Warcraft, Unreal Tournament 2004, R-factor car racing simulator, Bio-Shock (in the near future), and more to come.

The incorporated fine glasses allow the users probably the fast switching between 2D and 3D viewing modes. And don't worry, it won't cause any headaches, as they weigh a mere 65 grams.

If you're into serious gadgetry and you're ready for some action in your living room, then the price tag of 400 bucks should be just a minor detail.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
