Vuze 5.3.0.1 Beta 12, a BitTorrent client previously known as Azureus, which is built on Java, has been made available for download and testing.

Vuze is a relatively lightweight BitTorrent client that can be used to download torrents and even acts as a search engine. The competition is strong on the Linux platform between the various P2P clients, and the fact that Vuze is one of the few that are Java-based doesn't really help the situation. Fortunately, this Java dependency is pretty well hidden and most users won't notice it.

According to the changelog, the “all peers view” and “console view” are now opened automatically on restart, a default best-guess directory has been added to Tools->Options->File for those who want to use the best-guess feature, and SHA1 has been added to the list of hashes that can be generated in the File view.

Also, paused torrents no longer start automatically if the media server attempts to access the file data, torrent file names can now be pasted into the search box, and a new column that records the date of a download’s most recently completed file has been added.

Check out the announcement for a complete list of updates and new features. You can also check the review we have for Vuze, although it's for a slightly older version.
