VueScan 9.4.40, an easy-to-use replacement for the software that usually comes with scanners and that supports most flatbed scanners, printer/scanners, and film scanners, has been released and is now available for download.

The VueScan project is under constant development, and fixes, changes, and new features are implemented on a regular basis. The last few iterations of the software brought some important fixes, so it might be a good idea to update it.

According to the changelog, a problem with the 'Filter \ Descreen' option has been fixed, a number of issues with some Plustek scanners have been corrected, and the Plustek OpticBook 3600 and 3800 models should now work just fine on Mac OS X.

Also, film scanning now requires the Professional Edition for new purchases, a 'Filter \ Grain reduction' option for reflective scans has been added, support has been added for duplex scans on the HP Officejet Pro 276dw printer, and a problem with Microtek 9800XL has been fixed.

VueScan provides support for over 1,000 scanners on the Linux system. Not all of them work with all SCSI/USB/Firewire interfaces, but most combinations are known to function.

A complete backlog of modifications implemented in all the past versions can be found in the official announcement. You can download VueScan 9.4.40 right now from Softpedia.
