VueScan 8.6.12 Adds Support for Multiple Slide Sizes

VueScan is Hamrick Software’s powerful scanning tool aimed at helping users get the most out of their scanners, while producing new results from their scanned photos. The software is packed with an array of powerful features and currently supports over 1,200 scanners and 321 digital camera RAW files. The program is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

In addition to supporting flatbed and film scanners, as well as several digital camera RAW file types, VueScan automatically adjusts images to an optimum color balance, which reduces the need to employ Photoshop, and do these tasks manually. Designed to produce colors that look true to life, VueScan includes a built-in color calibration of scanners. VueScan offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features, and supports more than 100 brands of negative films.

New in version 8.6.12 is the improved automatic cropping, problems with 'Crop | Multi crop' option have been fixed, and there is new support for multiple slide sizes, including 36x24 mm; 13x10 mm; 24x18 mm; 28x28 mm; 36x28 mm; 40x40 mm.

Upgrading VueScan is easy. Users just download the latest version from either the developer’s website or Softpedia, and double-click the resulted DMG file. After dragging the new version to your Applications folder, VueScan will automatically recognize if you've already purchased it, and the latest version should just work, according to Ed Hamrick, the maker of VueScan. Upgrades to new versions are free in the first year after you purchase the Standard Edition, while those who purchase the Professional Edition always get these upgrades for free.

Speaking of editions, there are two major versions of VueScan – Standard and Professional. While there’s only one file to download, VueScan operates as a trial version when you first download it. The Standard Edition or Professional Edition features are enabled depending on your actions – whether you purchase and enter a serial number.
