Hamrick Software has updated VueScan, the application that can help Mac users produce quality scans. Using VueScan, Mac owners can also do batch scanning while producing color-balanced and cropped images. The software also boasts advanced features for restoring faded colors.

New in version 8.5.09, according to the fine folks at Hamrick Software, is a new "Output | PDF compression" option and an increased performance when working with large, rotated scans, as far as new functionality goes. The developers have also addressed two issues, one with duplex scans on some older Avision scanners, the other with Chinese (Traditional) on Mac OS X. Hamrick Software has also added support for two dialects of Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil). And now, for the best part...

According to Hamrick Software, VueScan 8.5.09 adds support for an additional 22 HP scanners. Those are: DeskJet F735; LaserJet 4700; LaserJet 9040; LaserJet 9050; LaserJet CM1312; LaserJet CM1312n; LaserJet CM2320; LaserJet CM2320f; LaserJet CM2320n; LaserJet CM8050; LaserJet CM8060; LaserJet M1120; LaserJet M1120n; OfficeJet 5100; Officejet A809; Officejet A909a; Officejet A909g; Officejet A909n; Officejet J5500; Officejet L7400; PhotoSmart C309a and PhotoSmart C4340.

There are two Editions of VueScan – Standard and Professional. However, users only need to download a single file for either version. The first time they download the software, it operates as a free trial, but as soon as they purchase and enter the serial number, the Standard Edition or Professional Edition features are enabled. Also, the dollar-sign watermark is disabled. They can update to the latest version for free, if they already own an older version of the software.

To update, just download the trial version using the link below, and the software will automatically recognize if you've already purchased it. VueScan requirements call for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or later and a supported scanner.
