Announced in November together with PlayStation 3 support, VUDU's 2.0 interface started rolling out today, VUDU-enabled systems everywhere getting the new UI that brings all sort of content browsing and filtering improvements to deliver a more user-friendly movie-watching experience.

Compared to the older version, this new interface brings a new content browsing system that is based on tabs, personalized recommendations and improved video filtering capabilities.

In addition, support for all sort of input devices was added, such as the PS3 Move motion controller, mice, and pointer remote controls.

All these changes should make the VUDU service a lot more user friendly, the navigation experience being very well put together while the new 16:9 aspect ratio used by the application enables the company to display additional information alongside each movie title available, not requesting users to access an additional “info” tab (as it was the case before).

“Everyone loved our original interface, so we kept everything that was great about VUDU 1.0 and worked to make it even better.

VUDU 2.0 offers improved browsing, search and navigation, so now all those HD movies are even easier to discover, experience and share.

The redesigned service also delivers recommendations based on your viewing history. And of course, we still offer the largest collection of HD and HDX media on demand, with rich Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound,” reads the VUDU blog regarding this update.

According to VUDU, all the VUDU-enabled devices will get this update automatically without requiring any user intervention as the service is entirely cloud-based, even the interface being rendered on a remote-server.

The first version of the interface was delivered all the way back in May 2008 together with the VUDU Box, nowadays the application coming pre-installed on a wide number of Internet-connected HDTVs and STBs as well as on Sony's PlayStation 3 console. (via SlashGear)
