Owners of select mobile phones from Verizon Wireless have now the possibility to download and install a new mobile application on their devices, namely Vringo's Facetones software. The new app was just announced as being available via the V CAST Apps service a series of Verizon Wireless devices with Facebook integration and new ways to access various social content.

The wireless carrier explains that users will be able to access visually exciting social content whenever making or receiving a phone call.

Vringo’s Facetones product will create a slideshow based on the photos a contact shared on social media websites, as well as on other photo sites.

After being installed on a device, the application will play the said video when the mobile phone rings. The Facetones app will connect only to Facebook initially.

“We are pleased to announce the launch of Facetones in the United States in V CAST Apps from Verizon Wireless,” said Andrew Perlman, president of Vringo.

“Facetones brings an exciting new range of social interaction for mobile users by allowing them to experience a visually exciting video slideshow every time they call a friend.”

The new mobile software is easily accessible to all devices that have the V CAST Apps service installed on them. That would include a number of over 20 devices powered by the Google Android operating system, as well as BlackBerry handsets.

Verizon Wireless’ mobile storefront provides users with thousands of apps, games and more. The service is powered by the Verizon Developer Community (VDC).

Moreover, we should note that it offers one-click discovery of applications, as well as a simple purchase process. All app purchases are being billed on the customers’ monthly bills.

The new application was made available for download via the V CAST Apps portal in the Social Networking & IM channel. It comes with a one-time purchase fee of $2.99 (about 2.2 Euros), plus tax, or with a $0.99 (0.75 Euros) monthly subscription.
