Pocket PC's have generally targeted business users and that's the reason why most manufacturers are starting to include
QWERTY keyboards in all their recent releases.
The main objective of a
Pocket PC is to offer increased usability for document viewing and editing as well as e-mail a key press away. In fact, some Pocket PC's don't even feature a camera, because when talking about a Pocket PC, the multimedia features are not the most important.
Considering that, it's rather odd that Vortex decided to include a 4 megapixel camera in the W740 when it doesn't even include a regular cellphone keypad. The W740 does feature a 2.4 inch 240 x 320 pixel touchscreen, but that doesn't really seem to be enough in a world where Pocket PC's with QWERTY keyboards are more than common.
The 4 megapixel camera with autofocus is pretty impressive though and does distinguish the W740 from other handhelds. The RAZR-like five-way navigation keys are also different from what you would normally find in this type of phone.
The bar-type Pocket PC phone is Windows Mobile 5.0 powered so expect all the usual software like Ms Office Mobile. It also features a TI OMAP730 200Mhz processor, 128MB of ROM memory, and 64MB RAM, Bluetooth 1.2 and push e-mail. Apart from a
QWERTY keyboard, the tri-band (900/1800/1900) GSM phone also lacks WiFi.
Manufactured by Russian company Voxtel, it has been officially launched in Russia and it is currently available in shops for around 13,999 rubles, which is approximately $533.
Although it is only available in Russia, since it's a tri-band phone, it should work just fine in other parts of the world. But, for the first time, at least it's not available in Korea only.
