Owners of Windows Phone 8 devices interested in enjoying the ability to send and receive push-to-talk messages can now do so courtesy of the recently released Voxer app.

The application brings Walkie-Talkie capabilities to Windows Phone 8 smartphones, but adds some new features to the mix as well, it seems.

For example, users can listen to messages either live, when the speaker talks, or as voice messages, appearing as new entries in the timeline, and are also provided with the possibility to send text and photos, and to share their location.

With Voxer, users can easily communicate with one or more friends live, without involving separate phone calls, voicemails, text messages, and emails.

Basically, the Voxer application for Windows Phone 8 puts instant communication in the palm of users’ hands, turning their mobile phones into PTT (Push to Talk) real-time Walkie Talkie devices.

Some of the main features of the application include:

- Enjoy free, live Walkie Talkie - PTT (Push to Talk) - Talk with friends on Windows Phone, Android and iPhone - Send voice, text, photos and location messages - See every message as they come in on Live Tiles - Play messages back later - they're all recorded - Choose your Favorite messages for easy playback - Chat with one friend or with a group - Create messages even when offline - Get notifications for new messages - Avoid annoying advertisements - Works on any cellular data network and WiFi – good for international use - Play voice messages faster at 2x or 3x speed

The mobile application is currently available for download as version 0.9.1.6 and offers support only for Windows Phone 8 smartphones. The software is available for download for free through the Windows Phone Store.

Users should take note of the fact that the app appears to have some issues with the notifications at the moment, though a future release will certainly resolve them.
