Pia Toscano was voted off American Idol: a voting glitch may have led to her elimination

When Pia Toscano, considered the favorite to win the 10th season of American Idol, was voted off the show, fans and judges were in shock. The elimination will go down in history as the most surprising on AI, and fresh reports suggest that some voting glitch may have been responsible for it.

Minutes after the announcement was made, theories about the elimination were already circulating online, with the most popular saying that either Pia was deliberately booted by producers or that there was some voting glitch.

Radar Online claims the latter is what most likely happened: apparently, fans trying to vote for Pia online weren’t able to do so on the spot, and they had to keep trying several times before they could actually go through.

At the same time, word on fan forums have it that there was a similar problem with voting online: they simply couldn’t get through because they would only get the busy tone.

“My wife was trying to vote for her online and couldn’t get it to work,” John Marcario of Fairfax, Virginia says for Radar Online.

“We’re not big fans of Pia and we didn’t think she would ultimately win, but we wanted to vote for her. And my wife clicked on the link online and it didn’t work first time, then she tried again and it still didn’t work,” Marcario adds.

His wife kept trying and, in the end, she managed to vote for Pia, but he reckons not all AI fans were as patient as she was and they just gave up after a couple of tries.

While all this is going on, Pia is keeping upbeat: amidst reports that she’s already in talks for a record deal, she says she was thrilled to see just how supportive the audience was of her.

This almost made the bitterness of the elimination go away.

“All this support is just amazing. This is everything I ever dreamed of and more. I’m still further than I would have been if I didn’t do the show. There can only be one winner and people need to continue to watch American Idol,” she says, as per the aforementioned e-zine.

“So many doors are going to open for me, in fact they already have and I’m looking forward to going on tour and I’m excited to see what my future holds. I’m not upset, I’m positive,” Pia adds.
