Since green cars emitting less or no harmful emission are considered a must-have nowadays, Volvo will follow the trend by showcasing its new XC60 Plug-in Hybrid concept during the 2012 North American International Auto Show organized in Detroit.

The new green car displays an electric motor generating 70 horsepower, powered by a 12 kWh lithium ion battery, which can be easily recharged in approximately 3.5 hours, combined with a four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine.

The automaker has recently revealed that the new concept car is expected to be an economical, fuel-efficient hybrid with a minimal impact on the environment. Its driver will have to select one of its three driving modes, Pure', 'Hybrid' or 'Power, by simply pressing a button.

In terms of design improvements, Volvo has succeeded in reducing the weight of the new powertrains, increasing fuel economy by up to 35%.

The XC60 designed especially for the Chinese and American buyers could be commercialized on a large scale in a few years.
