The "Voltron" animated TV series, which debuted in 1984, is being developed as bi-budget a project for the big screen by Producer Mark Gordon ("The Day After Tomorrow", "Spee", "Saving Private Ryan").
Gordon has teamed with Neptunes music producer Pharrell Williams, World Events Productions and producers Mark Costa and Ford Oelman from New Line Cinema to make the big-budget feature of Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
The story of Voltron, which has generated almost $750 million in worldwide licensing and nearly $200 million in toys and merchandising since 1984, will be based on the series about five maverick explorer-pilots who must travel to the planet Arus to learn how to operate Voltron, a giant mechanical warrior formed by five smaller robots, who is the last hope against the evil Drule Empire that has taken control of the universe.
Meanwhile, another film titled Transformers is also in the works by DreamWorks Pictures, according to Hollywood Reporter.
