News from the United Kingdom says that, this March 11, German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen made its e-Golf available for purchase in the United Kingdom.

Thus, people who wish to acquire one such environmentally friendly car need only pay a visit to one of the 24 retailers across the country that currently market the e-Golf.

Information shared with the public says that, thanks to a £5,000 (€6,010 / $8,342) grant offered by the country's government, Volkswagen's e-Golf has a price tag of £25,845 (€31,068 / $43,123).

According to Business Green, this means that the vehicle now finds itself in the same price bracket as the Nissan LEAF and the BMW i3.

The same source details that the German automobile manufacturer's e-Golf can cover some 118 miles (almost 190 kilometers) on a single charge.

Once it runs out of power, it takes 13 hours to get it back online when a standard plug is used.

However, an optional wall box at home that is presently available for free through British Gas can help reduce the charging time to 8 hours.

Should someone decide to opt for a fast-charger, the vehicle's battery would regain about 80% of its capacity in little over half an hour.

Volkswagen says that its e-Golf can reach a top speed of 87 miles per hour (140 kilometers per hour), and accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour (99.7 kilometers per hour) in 10.4 seconds.

Apart from the fact that it releases no emissions, the car features regenerative braking and full LED headlights that have been documented to use less electricity than regular xenon headlights.

Besides, it can be driven in economy modes. According to the German automobile manufacturer, these features make the car even more eco-friendly than it would otherwise be.

Just in case some of the company's customers want to take sustainability and green-oriented behavior to a whole new level, they can choose to recharge their car using clean power resulting from harvesting renewables.

This is because buyers of the e-Golf will also be offered 100% renewable electricity tariffs through clean power supplier Ecotricity, Volkswagen explains.

The company says that, should things go as planned, it will probably deliver its first e-Golfs to costumers in the United Kingdom sometime this coming June.

Commenting on its launching the e-Golf in said country, the company explained that the initiative was intended to help it become a “market leader for a new type of sustainable motoring” and take “electric vehicles out of their niche model status.”
